The 43-year-old actor met up with the Sikh community in Amritsar with his friend, Bollywood’s heavyweight actor Sanjay Dutt, to meet SGPC officials and screen the film 'Son of Sardaar' on Monday 3rd September 2012. The film which is not even due for release till November has already become a huge talking point after causing upset amongst some of the Sikh community.
Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn on agreed to remove the controversial scenes and dialogues from his upcoming movie 'Son of Sardaar' after holding a meeting with a five-member panel of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Sikhs' highest body on religious affairs, in Amritsar.
Devgn, who is also the producer of the movie, said after the meeting that he would ensure that nothing objectionable remained in the film.
"I have explained everything about the film and the context of portions about which there were objections from SGPC panel members. We will remove such portions," said Devgn. "But I have no control over film promos which are already out on the Internet," he added.
The Sikh groups had also taken strong exception to a particular scene in the movie in which a bare-chested Devgn brandishes a tattoo of Lord Shiva.
The Bollywood hero said he was very conscious during the filming that nothing wrong should be shown in the film and had even engaged an expert from Punjab to tie the turbans.
"In Bollywood films, the turbans don't reflect the original style. We flew in a turban expert from here over 20 times for the job so that the turbans of characters should have the true style," he said.
The actor also said that there was no intention at all to ridicule Punjabi or Sikh community and rather a sardar was the hero of the film and it showed the Punjabis in good light.
"When the film focuses on Punjabis and Sikhs, how can I hurt their sentiments," asked Ajay.
Devgn also revealed that he was working on a movie project on the 'Battle of Saragarhi' in which 21 Sikhs had died, defending an Army post in 1897. The 'Battle of Saragarhi' is considered as one of the great last-stands in history.
