It’s been a whirlwind but rewarding 2013 for Manrina Rekhi, wife of Rishi Rich! This year, she has been jet-setting across the globe to fulfil her dreams of acting. In 2013 alone, Manrina has completed filming for three exciting feature films, was recognised by BAFTA for having great potential, and now she’s rounding off her busy year with a New Year’s Eve television special!
The cosmetic dentist-turned-actress is no stranger to success. Having forged ahead in the career stakes, she managed to carve herself a niche in her chosen profession of dentistry, and is today recognised as one of the UK’s leading cosmetic dentists. However, this year has seen Manrina live out her true passion to become an actress on the silver screen.
Setting the tone for her whirlwind year, Manrina began 2013 filming her debut film Love Yoou Soniye this February in India. Released earlier this month, Love Yoou Soniye saw Manrina dive into the acting scene with energy and determination. Displaying her versatility as an actress,
Manrina filmed the Bollywood flick in Punjabi, ultimately preparing the groundwork for more challenging roles.
Immersed in pursuing her acting dreams, 2013 saw Manrina jet-set across the
globe for her hectic filming schedule. After completing filming in India, Manrina returned to England in March where she almost immediately began working on her next project. After being spotted in the rushes of Love Yoou Soniye, the producer of British film Born To Be King, approached Manrina to star as the female lead’s best friend.
Manrina then began preparing for her next role in a new film that has been billed as the ‘next Bend It Like Beckham’. After a chance encounter with director Atul Malhotra, she was invited to audition for, and successfully landed a role in the upcoming Amar, Akbar & Tony, which is due for release in early 2014. Showcasing her adaptability as an actress, Manrina’s role in the new feature film saw her change from glamour girl to fiercely protected daughter. The forthcoming feature flick sees Manrina star alongside some recognised names in the industry, including Karen David, Rez Kempton, Martin Delaney and Meera Syal.
Following her success in cinema this year, Manrina is rounding off 2013 with a special programme to be aired on New Year’s Eve. The show sees Manrina as one of the presenters, introducing some fantastic live acts from the British Asian music scene. The special programme, called Wired, will air on one of the UK’s leading Asian television channels, B4U. Wired will see Manrina begin the New Year as she intends to go on – on screen.
Commenting on her busy 2013, Manrina says: ‘I have had such a wonderful but busy year! It’s been an incredible amount of fun filming for various projects. I have always been passionate and ambitious about acting, so I’m proud of what I have achieved so far. This has definitely made me even more determined for next year. I can’t wait to start working on further developing my acting career in the New Year!’
Having tasted success but always committed to being at the top of her game, 2014 will see Manrina in the US, embarking on an acting course at the prestigious New York Film Academy.
