nesdijones03Nesdi Jones reveals all about her sex abuse

Nesdi Jones rose to fame with her singing on the track ‘London Wali’ with Money Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh, but as her musical career suddenly shot up and Nesdi was seen performing on stages across the UK, the talented singer was hiding a sad secret.

Nesdi Jones, was seven when she was abused by Bob Owen, who was sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court last month.

“It was horrible because it has stirred up a lot of old memories, which all feel fresh in my mind again,” 22-year-old Nesdi, from Criccieth told news reporters.

Bob Owen, aged 52, from Penrhyndeudraeth in Wales, admitted a string of sexual offences when he appeared in court on May 14th this year. The singer, who has waived her right to anonymity, said she kept the abuse to herself for years as she did not feel able to speak out.

“I was so young, I didn’t really understand what had happened, but I knew it was wrong. For years, I tried to forget about it. I wasnesdijones02 unhappy at school and I suffered from panic attacks,” she went on to say.

Eventually Nesdi plucked up the courage to tell a teacher at the age of 15 and gave a statement to the police, but was told there was not enough evidence. “He wasn’t charged, which absolutely broke me,” she said.

After new evidence came to light, Owen was arrested and charged with 13 offences under the Sexual Offences Act. When police informed her he had been arrested, she said it made her “feel sick” to think about the abuse again.

Owen was sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court on June 5th 2015 to 14 years and nine months in prison.

“I never thought I’d get justice for what he did,” she said. “I had waited to see him sentenced for so many years.”

Nesdi now hopes to set up a charity to help other people who have been affected by sexual abuse.
