I get to meet a lot of Bhangra stars from all over the globe and very few of them are so humble and grounded. I’ve recently found out the Punjabi artists that do have real talent and are amongst the top of the hierarchy when it comes to Punjabi music, are the humblest of all….and Malkit Singh is one of those.
When I was invited to go to the press conference to announce Malkit Singh’s honour of a star on the ‘Walk of Stars’ on Broad Street I had to go. One to hear more about the news, and two, to congratulate him myself in person.
The press conference was of course held on Broad Street, at Pushkar restaurant.
Malkit Singh never ceases to amaze me with his success. After recently receiving an MBE from the Queen, he wasn’t expecting another huge honour in his name. Malkit Singh will be the first ever Indian to have his name on the ‘Walk of Stars’ on Broad Street – an honour which he told host Satnam Rana “means so much to him”.
Having been the first Punjabi artist to ever receive an MBE and now this, you would think Malkit Singh would be boasting about this from the rooftops, however the grounded Punjabi singer was still modest in his speech and spoke from his heart about what such an opportunity meant for him on a personal level and how he hoped other singers too would one day achieve such success that he has.
I have a lot of respect for Malkit Singh and have always made time for his events. He has always been a great supporter of Ikonz and of everything I have done in the past.
Congratulations to Malkit Singh – a true gem to the Bhangra Industry and an icon to many young Punjabi's out there.
