Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati Quit Social network site Twitter after becoming the target of racial abuse. The soap star 44, had apparently been sent a stream of race hate messages over the past couple of weeks after building up 18, 467 followers.

The Star has been deeply shocked and upset after receiving the racial abuse. Referring to her followers as “Tweet ta di do das”, she last week twitted: ‘Errr twitter abuse? Not bothered really just surprised at the racial abuse and desire to try and hurt people for no reason. Thanks for the support tweet ta di do das. I think I’m giving twitter a wee rest… gob smacked”.

She later twitted: ‘Tweet ta di do das thanks for the follows. Thanks for the banter I’ve enjoyed my time on twitter. Over and out.’ After which she left the site bidding farewell to her loyal fans.

Shobna, who is of Indian descent, has campaigned against racism and intolerance and used Twitter to spread information about her campaigns.

The actress, who plays Sunita Alahan in the ITV soap, recently expressed her utter sadness to have been the target of racial abuse after all her hard work in helping campaigning against it ‘I love this twitter I like chatting with like minded folk but overt racism …well that can't be tolerated. 'Horrid … I don't get it and it saddens me.'
